How do I know how much to order?
Measure the area you have prepared and would like to cover with grass. This is done by calculating square feet = Length x Width.
- Check out this area calculator for additional help:
How Big are the rolls?
The rolls are 2’ x 5’ or 10 sq ft and weighs about 40 pounds.
How many rolls on a full pallet?
A full pallet is 54 rolls or 540 sqft and weighs just over 2,000 pounds.
How do I prepare my soil for the sod?
See our before you order page.
How do I install the sod?
See our install and maintain page.
How long will it take to install the sod?
Two inexperienced people should plan on about one hour per pallet for installation. This can also vary depending on access for our forklift and how close we can set the sod.
Where will you set the sod?
We will set the sod wherever we can access with our forklift. We need an 8’ wide opening for our forklift to enter. The closer for you, the better.
Is there really a difference in the quality of grass?
YES! Absolutely. The ground the turf is grown on, age of the turf at harvest, water pH and salinity, how often and what fertilizer is used and mowing habits will all affect the quality of your lawn, even after transplant. We take all this and more into consideration when selecting turf.
What varieties of turf do you offer?
We only deliver the most successful types of turf in your area. This comes from years of experience and in depth studies of seed blends for the climate and soil conditions of different geographic areas.
What if I order too much?
We recommend putting what you have extra for sale or for free on a classifieds website such as craigslist.com. We cannot accept returned grass because it is a perishable product.
What if I order too little?
Depending on how short you end up, you can always order more from www.LocalSod.com. Note: you will have a delivery charge on any order. You can also grab a few rolls at your Local Home Depot or Lowes.
What do I do with my empty pallets?
Go online and look for cool crafty ideas for what you can do with them, recycle them at your local city recycling center, cut them up and use them for firewood or do the reasonable thing and email us at info@LocalSod.com with the pick up address and we can come pick them up for you. We can always reuse them.
How far away is the moon?
The moon is 239,000 miles and would take three days to travel there. Currently, there is no grass on the moon… maybe we could sod it. 😉
